Made a murder mystery wall in my bedroom but rearranged it a couple months later so I had to take it down 😩This was SO MUCH FUN THOUGH!! Will definitely pick it up again later and try to finish the story, I ended up being able to connect one murder (I THIIINK) plus a couple miscellaneous things

Got annoyed when i got stuck and searched on YouTube for tips, only to find out that most people have whole different storylines。 😐

I went to the bookstore specifically to find some sort of murder mystery novel and walked out with this book。 I was smiling ear to ear thinking about how incredible the idea of a fiction that allows the reader to solve the murder。 Unfortunately, when I arrived home eager to read it, I was presented with a jumble of ramblings and short paragraphs with no connections or even appeal。 I took to the 100 page book like a novel trying to take mental notes of any clues along the way。 I couldn't even sta I went to the bookstore specifically to find some sort of murder mystery novel and walked out with this book。 I was smiling ear to ear thinking about how incredible the idea of a fiction that allows the reader to solve the murder。 Unfortunately, when I arrived home eager to read it, I was presented with a jumble of ramblings and short paragraphs with no connections or even appeal。 I took to the 100 page book like a novel trying to take mental notes of any clues along the way。 I couldn't even start to understand what was going on and kept thinking, please make this end。 I felt like I was reading a foreign language where I knew every word but unfortunately could not form any comprehension。I understand this should really be a box of cards and one orders them trying to solve a problem, but this wasn't want I wanted。 The idea is interesting but for what I wanted, the execution wasn't there。 Fortunately it only took a few hours to read, so not much of a loss。I do love the cover illustration by Tome Gould; Fantastic contrast with black and white and only 3 colors。 I like looking at the artwork to create a mystery more than I liked any page in the book。 。。。more

Definitely a very interesting and unique book! I was so excited about it, still am (big fan Sherlock)。 I read 20 pages and took notes so I can make my life easier by finding patterns or small links。 It took me a few good hours。 Long story short, I got sick so I forgot about it and now I don’t have the motivation to finish it anymore。 Hopefully, I’ll start again later this year when I have more free time。 Some advice: have consistency when reading and solving this book。 Why? I’ve flipped through this book and gone in depth searching for literary references and clues on about 20 pages of it, but I am DNFing this puzzle for now。 I am nowhere near even ripping these pages out yet to start piecing them together。 I’ve decided that, at least for the time being, the effort this book requires is so not worth it to me。 I have enjoyed finding little nuggets of literature and history through the pages, and this book is certainly a brilliant concept, but I just can’t continue f I’ve flipped through this book and gone in depth searching for literary references and clues on about 20 pages of it, but I am DNFing this puzzle for now。 I am nowhere near even ripping these pages out yet to start piecing them together。 I’ve decided that, at least for the time being, the effort this book requires is so not worth it to me。 I have enjoyed finding little nuggets of literature and history through the pages, and this book is certainly a brilliant concept, but I just can’t continue for now, lol。 My sanity is slowly waning with it, and there are so many more books that I would like to read instead。 I’m glad I gave it a shot though, even though it was a weak attempt。 Maybe I’ll circle back to it one day。 。。。more

I knew this read was right up my alley when they wrote "no friend of mine takes his ease in my chair。 I have no chair" (p。 3)。 I for whatever reason am fascinated with Henry's character—there's no logic behind it other than I feel brainwashed that his name was mentioned unequally more than others。 Anyway, good luck to you if you're submitting an entry! You can 100% count on me out on winning the prize money, because I literally do not know what is happening。 Despite all the odds against the read I knew this read was right up my alley when they wrote "no friend of mine takes his ease in my chair。 I have no chair" (p。 3)。 I for whatever reason am fascinated with Henry's character—there's no logic behind it other than I feel brainwashed that his name was mentioned unequally more than others。 Anyway, good luck to you if you're submitting an entry! I’ve written a lot of reviews for unconventional books over the years, but I think this one definitely takes the cake as probably the weirdest (sorry house of leaves 🥲)。 Cain’s Jawbone was written back in the 1930s, but was mostly forgotten about until an online resurgence over the past couple of years, and now is basically impossible to get your hands on now that people are trying to get their hands on it。 Normally I like to include a little plot summary in each review, but this time I genuinel I’ve written a lot of reviews for unconventional books over the years, but I think this one definitely takes the cake as probably the weirdest (sorry house of leaves 🥲)。 Cain’s Jawbone was written back in the 1930s, but was mostly forgotten about until an online resurgence over the past couple of years, and now is basically impossible to get your hands on now that people are trying to get their hands on it。 Normally I like to include a little plot summary in each review, but this time I genuinely have no idea what I’ve read。 。The big gimmicky hook to this one is that the story (which I believe is a murder mystery?) is only 100 pages long but each page is published out of order。 This seems like enough of a task already, but the prose is all written in this kind of obscure dreamlike way, which makes it difficult to tell what (if anything) is happening on each page。 For example, I’m pretty sure the book has multiple narrators, but I couldn’t tell you how many there are, or even what their names are。 The challenge for the reader is to attempt to re-order the pages into the correct sequence, and also figure out who the 6 murder victims/accomplices are throughout, which I (stupidly) thought would be easy。 I was wrong。。It feels a bit weird giving this a 5 star review considering I couldn’t tell you a single thing about the plot, but the idea behind Cain’s Jawbone is so audaciously bold and well executed that I can’t not give it a perfect score。 It bills itself as the most “fiendish literary puzzle of all time”, and I think it’s probably right。 It’s a lot of fun, and I definitely recommend it to anyone with a lot of free time on their hands to try and solve the thing 。。。more
